Western State Forensic Hospital Project

AAMA Accredited Testing in Tacoma, Washington

QED Lab provided on-site AAMA-accredited ASTM E1105-23 water penetration testing per AAMA 503-24 field testing standards at Western State Forensic Hospital to verify building enclosure performance prior to the installation of exterior cladding. Our testing focused on critical transition points within the enclosure system, including weather-resistive barriers (WRB), window assemblies, tie-in conditions, joints, and sealant applications. By conducting controlled water penetration testing under specified pressure conditions, we helped confirm that the installed systems met design intent and performance requirements.

Given the scale of the test locations, our team mobilized for multiple days on site, performing several formal tests each day. Each test assembly included chamber construction, calibrated spray application, controlled pressure sequencing, and detailed observation of water intrusion pathways. Testing areas ranged from smaller focused locations to larger envelope sections, allowing the project team to evaluate both individual components and integrated system performance.

QED Lab managed the full testing process from field execution through final report compilation. Our services included project management coordination, technician mobilization, data collection, digital photo documentation, and comprehensive reporting. By delivering clear, organized findings and maintaining strict adherence to AAMA standards, QED Lab provided the project team at Western State Forensic Hospital with reliable verification of enclosure performance and added assurance prior to cladding installation.
