Des Moines Theater Project in Washington

Air Barrier Testing in Washington

QED Lab recently performed air barrier testing at the Des Moines Theater in Des Moines, Washington, a historic building originally constructed in 1942. The structure, which once housed the theater and six retail storefronts, is undergoing an exciting transformation that blends preservation with modernization. Our testing focused on verifying the airtightness of the renovated building envelope, ensuring that the newly added and restored areas meet today’s energy efficiency and performance standards while maintaining the character of this beloved local landmark.

This revitalization project includes the addition of 18 new residential units and the renovation of the theater into a performing arts center, breathing new life into a cornerstone of downtown Des Moines. By conducting comprehensive air barrier testing, QED Lab is helping ensure the building delivers long-term durability, comfort, and energy performance—supporting the community’s vision of creating a vibrant, sustainable destination that honors the theater’s historic legacy.
